A Little More About Win

As a child during the Depression, Win created elaborate make-believe worlds in dirt yards with friends and re-enacted Western movies with her brother. She choreographed musicals with buttons, went on adventures with Nan and Bert Bobbsey, and solved mystery cases with Nancy Drew.  Her parents enjoyed entertaining friends, and on many evenings, she listened to them regale guests with legends and yarns.

After graduating from Southwest Texas State Teachers College, Win accepted a position as director for the Camp Fire Girls Council in Waco, Texas, and started a career.

Waco is also where she met and fell in love with Charlie Farquhar, a handsome brown-eyed United States Air Force pilot. Waco was their meeting ground and home for several years as Charlie pursued a master’s in American History at Baylor University, but it was the Texas Gulf Coast region where Win and Charlie planted their roots and raised a family.

Win and Charlie (both career educators) shared fifty-seven years together, loving, laughing, raising children (and more than a few pets), and serving in their church and community.

Now retired, with two grown daughters, four grandchildren, one granddaughter-in-law, and a litter of great-grands, Win continues to serve in multiple programs and activities in her church and community – her most recent love is working with students in an English Second Language (ESL) program – and continues telling stories at live events.

When she isn't telling or writing stories, you might find her volunteering in the community, nurturing her flower garden, or playing bunco with a group she's been friends with for twenty-five years. She also enjoys reading, travel, hot tea, and anything with butterflies.
